One time Tour de France winner Floyd Landis gained notoriety after being stripped of his title in 2006 after testing positive for synthetic testosterone, among other substances, that are disallowed by the World Anti-Doping Agency rules.

In an ironic twist, Landis is back in the news for a different kind of dope. According to this article in Bicycling magazine, he’s getting ready to launch a line of “high-quality cannabis products” in Colorado under the brand name Floyd’s of Leadville.

Landis wants the products from Floyd’s of Leadville to be seen as an alternative to opiate painkillers and other addictive prescription drugs. After undergoing hip replacement surgery as a result of a 2003 bicycle accident, Landis himself has dealt with the pain many athletes face from injuries suffered during their daily routines. He told Bicycling magazine;

“The therapeutic uses for cannabis can’t be ignored…For years I relied on opioid pain relievers to treat my hip pain. With cannabis, I find that I can manage my pain and have a better quality of life. We need to give people a safer alternative.”

Aware of the humor behind his new business venture, Landis tweeted;

Floyd’s of Leadville officially launched its line of vapes, edibles, and other cannabis products Thursday, June 30 at Club Vinyl in Denver. The event was limited to 300 guests and RSVPs were made at FloydsofLeadville.com.
