U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) recently stated that he had decided to use medical marijuana to help deal with arthritis pain and that he was pleased with the results. After trying a topical wax-based marijuana treatment, Rep. Rohrabacher stated that it was “the first time in a year and a half that I had a decent night’s sleep because the arthritis pain was gone.”

Though the majority of the Republican party is opposed to the legalization of marijuana, Congressman Rohrabacher has been firmly pro-legalization, writing an amendment that would prohibit the federal government from going after dispensaries operating in states where medical marijuana was legal.

Earlier in the month, he appeared with Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom to assist at the beginning of a campaign to advocate for the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, which would make marijuana legal for recreational use in the state of California, saying, “The walls of cannabis prohibition and tyranny are coming down. Join us in tearing down this wall.”

While many Republican politicians and presidents had admitted to using marijuana when they were younger, a Washington Post article states that this “marks the first time in at least several decades that a sitting U.S. congressman has admitted to marijuana use while in office.”
